Hip to the hop
There’s something about hot chicks that are really into their music. And then there’s an extra something about hot chicks that are into good music.
Then there's something totally different about chicks who are into hip hop. It’s not one of those tangible things; it's not something you can touch or feel. Just something you know. Alison Wonderland fits that bill perfectly. “I got into music when I was still an embryo. My mother force-fed me The Beatles while I was baking in her tummy. I am a pretty strange person and usually the only thing that I make sense of is music.â€
Not a bad way to be, really. Regardless, Alison prides herself on her love of the urban sounds. But then she also knows how to select, mix and rock a party as well. “Man, I love, love, love hip hop. I often find myself staring up to the sky, day dreaming, wishing I had a booty. It's definitely one of my favorite genres to DJ even though I don't consider myself a genre-ist! I love everything and anything as long as it speaks to me.â€
Keeping busy on stage isn't her only love. A bit of studio time doesn't go astray either, but she's keeping mum about it for now. “Actually I have quite a few things up my sleeve. I am busy with my own production at the moment - it's actually the reason I was recently in London! It's all a bit hush-hush at the moment, which is lame because I would love to tell the world about it.â€
Still, she won't be compartmentalised and is quick to make the following disclaimer: “to be honest - since my first set I played genre free - although I have noticed a lot more DJs getting into the party style which is awesome! I just love what I do. I spend my time travelling, listening to music and doing loads of interstate and festival gigs! “I don't really stop jumping once I get on stage,†she chimes. “So expect a bit of an organised mess from me. Really though, just make sure that when you get to the Bundaberg tour, you're ready to party, party, oh... and also... party!â€
Alison Wonderland plays the Port Office Hotel Saturday March 19.
