1. VP Records (Jamaica, Queens). VP is one of the biggest reggae, dub and dancehall labels in the world and this shop shows it. Massive amounts of 45”s and loads of albums. The shopkeepers will also select tunes for you — just call out when you like one you hear, and they will put it aside. Big ups.

2. Miss Lily's Variety Store (Manhattan). A great shop for reggae, dub and dancehall vinyl, with a Jamaican style restaurant and milkbar nestled right next door. They also have a live-to-air radio station right inside the shop, right alongside almost every version of Sleng Teng you could dare to name on wax.

3. Arena Records (Brooklyn). Although Williamsburg is nauseatingly hipster'd these days, it's still nice to head into Arena and search through massive amounts of old hip hop 12”s. And for three or four bucks a pop, it's worth it for the big boombap sound that somehow digital mediums fail to capture.

4. Deadly Dragon Records (Chinatown). A pokey little store filled floor to ceiling with vinyl rarities and cool books. These folks also run regular reggae nights around the city as well. Google Grace of Spades.

5. Shrine (Harlem). Ok, so this place is actually a jazz and world music live venue, but the ceiling is covered with record covers which looks rad. Among them all I actually spotted Men At Work's 'Business As Usual', which is probably one of the most boring record covers ever, but still made it up there. I guess on the strength of ‘Land Down Under’?

New Dub City have new single, ‘New World Order’, available now; it was produced by Ali MC and mixed by Wayne ‘Lotek’ Bennett. newdubcity.com

Mat McHugh: Top Five Live Songs

Mat has selected his five favourite songs from his new live album, ‘Live At Random Hall’

1. ‘La Mar’. I've been blessed to be able to play around the world for ten years. Everywhere I go, this is the song that is most requested. I'm proud of it. It took a lot of work to make it so simple.

2. ‘Strange Days’. Ever since I was a kid I have been puzzled as to why things are the way they are. A lot of things seem strange to me. I write songs about them just in case they seem strange to someone else too.

3. ‘Brand New Broken Heart’. I like songs that say sad things with a happy melody. Nothing is sadder than a fresh broken heart.

4. ‘Go Don’t Stop/Is This Love’. This one is fun to play. It's pretty much my philosophy. Just go until you stop. Also, it's probably cliche but I can't help throwing Bob Marley in the mix on a regular basis.

5. ‘Guns Of Brixton/Dub B Good to Me’. Beats International built their song on the backbone of a Clash bassline. The fact that both songs are amazing testifies to the strength of a good bassline. My favourite instrument.

‘Live At Random Hall’ is out now.

Slava's Snowshow Tickets

Since its creation by renowned Russian clown Slava Polunin in 1993, ‘Slava’s Snowshow’ has played to millions of people in more than 30 countries and 120 cities including New York, London, Los Angeles, Paris, Rome, Hong Kong, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro and Moscow.

It is to clowning what Cirque du Soleil is to circus, and the show brilliantly creates a world of wonderment and fantasy that transports the audience to a joyous dream-like place, where a bed becomes a boat in a storm-tossed sea; a woman is wrapped in cellophane and becomes flowers in a vase; a child walks in amazement inside a bubbles.

MKO: Top Five Childhood TV/ Film Crushes

1. Savion Glover in ‘Sesame Street’. Tap sensation Savion Glover played this bright-eyed, tap-happy, all-singing, all-dancing nice guy on ‘Sesame Street’, and was the highlight of my weekday afternoons.

2. ’Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’.
At the tender age of five, I would lie in bed and pull the covers over my head, then wish really hard that I when I pulled them back, the ninja turtles would be standing in my room. Not entirely sure what I expected would happen if it ever worked…

3. The mud-wrestling chicks in ‘Big Top Pee Wee’.
There's this montage in the movie ‘Big Top Pee Wee’ where he and his love interest kiss; shots of fireworks, volcanoes bubbling over, rockets taking off, etc. One clip is about two seconds worth of two women mud-wrestling. I used to watch it, rewind it, pause it, watch it again, repeat the cycle. I was six.

4. Gumby.
Seriously, how could any woman resist a green guy made out of clay. What a cutie.

5. Rick Moranis in ‘Honey I Shrunk The Kids’.
As the wacky scientist Dad who ends up shrinking and losing his kids in the backyard, he was so hopeless, so helpless, so pathetic, yet so intelligent. I just wanted to give him a big hug.
