Brisbane Record Fair: Top Five Dealers

This Saturday at the Brisbane Record Fair in West End, five dealers will be showing five new collections for the first time.

1. Peter Wright travels from the Blue Mountains only twice a year for the Brisbane record fairs. This time Peter will have a collection of classic rock and progressive rock for sale for the first time... from AC/DC to Buffalo to rare Vertigo LPs.

2. Robert Truelove from Newcastle is a bootleg LP specialist, and will be unveiling a recent batch of rare and unreleased albums including gems from Bowie, The Cramps, Neil Young and The Velvet Underground.

3. Matt Bowden is a record dealer unparalleled in Australia for his colossal collection of classic rock, jazz, soul and funk LPs. Nearly all of what he brings to the fair this Saturday will be seen for the first time. Think Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Doors, Funkadelic, Parliament and James Brown plus Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Herbie Hancock.

4. Greg Cuffe has been selling rare records for 30 years and with the knowledge accrued by that, has bought a phenomenal psychedelic and progressive rock collection that is world standard. Brisbane Record Fair is proud to have Greg selling from this collection... Kraut rock, prog, folk, psyche and jazz.

5. John from Revolve Records in Sydney is making a special appearance at this first record fair. For those of you who know John, you will agree, he is what makes a fair. He will have an impressive 15 tables of stock... that's over 1,500 records on show... many new to the Brisbane Record Fair.

The Brisbane Record Fair takes place simultaneously at the Boundary Hotel, The Hi-Fi and Rumpus Room (all located on Boundary St, West End) from 10am Saturday November 9.

1. Iron Man. Chosen initially for his super human strength to assist with loading in, Stark would also provide cutting edge tech knowledge that could be utilised in amp repairs/ maintenance etc. His high levels of self-confidence would also translate well on stage.

2. Sherlock Holmes. Nancy Vandal have a poor record in mystery solving, and Holmes would be a major asset in this field. Riddles such as "where is Fox's jacket?" and "what key is this song in?" would quickly be untangled by the ace sleuth.

3. Obi-Wan Kenobi. Many a time has the lack of ability to perform Jedi mind tricks hampered NV's attempts to become a powerful player on the world music stage. From negotiating riders, to avoiding police fines for having feet sticking out of the van, NV see the ability to manipulate the thoughts of authority figures as an invaluable contributor.

4. Jason Voorhees. Making hilarious jokes while on stage is a key plank of the NV roadshow, but what happens when a punter thinks they’re being made fun of and wants to punch a band member in the head as a result? This perennial problem would be solved with the addition of Jason to our security staff, and we predict his violent behaviour would cut down unwanted crowd shenanigans by upwards of 50 percent.

5. Withnail from ‘Withnail And I’. We just want to hang out with him. He could be tour manager.

Nancy Vandal play the Miami Shark Bar Saturday November 9.

Hunter: Bring It All Back CD

Australian hip hop legend, Hunter, lost his battle with Endocrine cancer two years ago this month.

After Hunter passed away in October 2011, his ex-partner and mother of his son, Laura, took on the enormous responsibility of coordinating the release of 'Bring It All Back', a nine-track album recorded by Hunter during his final year of life.

“It's a massive, massive relief for me,” Laura. “It's been a project that's been two years in the making. To be able to finally see a hard copy that I can hold on to is pretty special. Just to be able to honour his memory by releasing what he was working on. Especially because he was so close to finishing it when he passed.”

Suburban Dark: Top Five Things That Are Turbo

1. Jeswon takes out the turbo stakes for his straight up delivery on our track ‘Nexus 6’. There is no way you can listen to that track and not be offended.

2. Nanotechnology (Nanotech). No one can front on this kind of skill. Really, it's only a matter of time ’till we are high fiving our very own T-800 after jacking a tanker and making our way to the equator.

3. Riding a penny-farthing. Seriously, imagine mackin’ down your local street in a pimped-up penny-farthing. Maybe not the most aggressive in the turbo spectrum but I highly doubt anyone will fuck with you.

4. Cage fighting. Half the time you wonder if this shit is actually real. The fights that are real are seriously turbo.

5. Trucks. You can't deny a solid rig on the highway. For max turbo try inserting a lead-footed sleep-deprived psycho who will stop for nothing.

Suburban Dark play Valley Fiesta, which takes over the Fortitude Valley Entertainment Precinct and surrounding areas Nov 22-24.
